This website includes interviews and essays on taiko drummers in Maine.
During the spring semester of 2010, taiko drummer Wynn Yamami was the artist-in-residence at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He coached the existing taiko club, taught a course entitled Taiko: Music, Movement, and Meaning, and gave workshops to the other taiko groups in Maine, including Bates Taiko Club, Bowdoin Taiko, Hall-Dale High School Taiko Group, and the Taiko Maine Dojo in Portland.
Sensing an opportunity for community-building, Yamami had his students interview different taiko drummers across the state, from the high school students in Hallowell to the die-hard drummers in Portland. The interviews were crafted into essays and are now posted on this blog.
